It is important to know at any age!

Note: This article is focused specifically on how to improve the business side of your guitar teaching, the 'teaching side' of your teaching business will be discussed in a future guitar teaching article.

and here is another

If you continually allow your students to tell you what they need to learn, they will NOT make any significant progress. The most they can achieve with this approach is a decent understanding of various isolated ideas... but they will not become 'great musicians'. In fact, this approach will cause many of your guitar students to leave when they are unsatisfied with the lack of results they are getting.

and finally

Now, before I reveal the most effective ways for teaching your students to practice guitar, it is essential that you assess your own guitar teaching ability. The THREE Major Reasons Why So Many Guitar Students Don't Know How To Practice. Reason 1: Some guitar instructors do put 'some' effort to show their students how to practice guitar, but this effort comes in the form of a very short instruction (that the student quickly forgets). Take the following for example: While showing students how to play clean and articulated arpeggios, it is common for the student to struggle to separate one note from the other without ringing together. In many cases, the guitar teacher will advise the student to make sure not to allow the different notes to ring at the same time when they practice on their own in between lessons. They may even demonstrate how this is done a few times before the lesson is over. Unfortunately, this does not truly help the guitar student in a way that 'sticks' and the student ends up committing the same mistakes over again during the following entire week of practicing. When the next lesson comes, the problem is still there - but why? Why is it that many guitar students continue making the same mistakes while practicing even after being told/shown otherwise? Here are the reasons: a) The student has already forgotten the main cause of the problem and continued to unknowingly play while making the same mistake over and over. b) Occasionally, your guitar student will remember what causes the mistake but will forget how to correct it. c) Some students will 'think' that they understood what you were explaining, but really did not understand. This results in them spending the whole week practicing incorrectly.
